"I don’t think like the average person on the street. I think quite perversely sometimes."

Alexander McQueen

'Eclect Dissect', Alexander McQueen for Givenchy Haute Couture, autumn/winter 1997.

For this collection, McQueen created a story of a mad turn-of-the-century surgeon-cum-murderer, who fused parts of women and animals together. The story goes, the surgeon’s creations come to life to seek their revenge.

McQueen staged his show in the Faculté de Médecine on Paris’ left bank, transformed by Simon Costin into a laboratory of horrors. Costin also created the quasi-surgical accoutrements for the outfits, including skeletal hands, bird’s heads and bone accessories.
